Kaladesh League at Dueller's Point

5th November 2016
Hail Duellers!
Come 6th November, a Kaladesh league will begin at Dueller's Point. This series of contests is meant to introduce the awesome game of Magic to newer members and beginners, but of course long-time veterans are more than welcome to join. The league will commence tomorrow at 4pm, and subsequently held every other Sunday of November at the same time. The entry fee is S$13.
For the first week (Tomorrow, 6th November), participants will obtain 3 Kaladesh booster packs to form a sealed deck. This deck should normally consist of 30 cards but you may form a bigger deck if you choose. Take note your deck must hold 30 cards at a minimum, though. You can only use cards you uncover from the packs provided, as well as any number of basic lands. We recommend that you form a 30 card deck with 17 spells and 13 lands. And of the 17 spells, 11 to 15 should be creatures. Watch out for your mana curve, we advise you to include cards of the following costs by a particular quantity:
1 mana: 2
2 mana: 5
3 mana: 4
4 mana: 3
5 mana: 2
6 mana and above: 1
The ratio given is a guideline and should not be set in stone, but it should serve as a point of reference for first-time deck builders. The idea is to have something to cast every time you lay a new land during your turn, and that your spells will gradually become more expensive and more powerful as you amass more lands on the field to cast them.
Once you have constructed your deck, it is time to play. Depending on the player turnout, you can have 3 or 4 matches against different opponents. According to the directions laid out in Wizards of the Coast website, matches are decided by a single game, with one free mulligan granted to both players. We have heard criticisms that such a format might hinge a little too much on variance and luck, so if you can get your opponent to agree, the both of you can establish the winner through the best 2 games out of 3.
A match card will be issued to record down the games played over the month. At the end of the day, you may keep your rares and leave the rest of your decks at the store for safekeeping. Also, every week just before your games you can purchase one (and only one) booster at a special price of S$4, in order to upgrade your deck. A total score will be tallied on the final Sunday of November (27th November), and the top 3 players with the highest number of points will get additional packs. Furthermore, each match won will award you S$1 store credit!
The Kaladesh league is a casual occasion for fun and a way to make new friends with a shared passion for Magic. It also gives budding players an opportunity to practice and build up his or her card collection. If you are thinking of worthwhile leisure this Sunday, I can think of no better amusement than the Kaladesh League here at Dueller's Point.
